DP World Staff Accommodation

Our challenge

We’re committed to investing in our people – and that applies outside of work too. In Dubai, over 2,000 of our workers live in purpose-built accommodation close to the port. But we wanted to provide more than just a place where people go to sleep and eat: we wanted to create a community where everyone feels at home.

Our solution

We’ve made many improvements to DP World Staff Accommodation over the years.

There is a combination of accommodation available, double or single rooms which are furnished and air conditioned. Cleaning and 24/7 maintenance services are included as well as round-the-clock security.

Our recreation centre includes a gym, library, internet café and TV room, as well as various sports pitches and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. The DP World sports and social club organises various competitions throughout the year – for example, we hosted a cricket tournament in 2015 involving teams from India, Pakistan and Dubai.

We also regularly hold special events, to promote environmental and community initiatives like Earth Hour and our Go Green week.

We serve three nutritious meals a day, either in the dining halls or to staff on duty, with varied Asian (Indian/Pakistani/Bengali), Arabic and Filipino menus. Special meals are served twice a month, as well as on festive occasions like Eid or UAE National Day.

There is a mosque on site, surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens, which can accommodate 800-900 people. Other services include a grocery shop, a hair salon and an ATM.

Our results

By investing in making DP World Staff Accommodation a home from home, we’ve helped improve staff well-being and morale – which ultimately benefits everyone.

A survey in July 2015 found that residents were overwhelmingly happy with DP World accommodation. The sports and social events were rated as excellent or good by 91% of residents, and 89% were equally impressed with the assistance given by the helpdesk. The catering was also rated highly: 61% said it was excellent or good, with only 3% saying it was poor.
