The main access road to our terminal in Sokhna is now fully illuminated by solar lighting.
We’re always on the lookout for ways of reducing our energy use, and are committed to using more sources of renewable power. Best practice is shared across the group, but individual business units are very much encouraged to use their initiative to contribute – and our team in Sokhna, Egypt, felt that the lighting on the main road to their terminal could play a part.
The team at Sokhna – led by the Deputy CEO and including members from safety, environment and engineering – ran a successful project to light the main access road to the terminal with solar lighting. The new lighting runs down both sides of the road for about a kilometre.
The solar lighting has made a measurable contribution to our efforts to rely less on the electricity grid The lights have also brought another beneficial effect: visibility for road users has been significantly improved, meaning everybody is now safer.
